What is Roll forming?

7月 14th, 2008

Forming metal sheet strip along straight, longitudinal, parallel bending lines with multiple pairs of contoured rollers without changing the thickness of the material.

Good roller pass design is the key to successful roll forming. To reduce forming defects and trial production costs, computer aided simulation of cold roll forming is used.  The first decisions to make a new roll forming line is designed the number of forming steps to produce a profile. This is depend on the material properties, the cross section geometry and the tolerance required.

Cold roll forming equipment

6月 27th, 2008

The metal sheet cold roll forming equipment(machine) is a process to shape various kinds of sheets or metals. The main part of the technique lies on the design of the roller(rolling  modes). Through many years of experience and experiments, the company continues its professional research and development efforts, utilizes the computer technology and incorporates it with sophisticated hydraulic systems to enhance the automatic machinery that produces equipment as precise as required by the client. Products include stepped tile roofing, classical wall cladding and some other peripheral parts.

Processes of metalworking: metal forming

6月 27th, 2008

Metalworking is the craft and practice of working with metals to create individual parts, assemblies, or large scale structures. The term covers a wide range of work from large ships, bridges and oil refineries to delicate jewellery. It therefore includes a correspondingly wide range of skills and the use of many different types of metalworking processes and their related tools.
Metalworking is an art, hobby, industry, and trade. It relates to metallurgy, a science, jewellery making, an art-and-craft, and as a trade and industry with ancient roots spanning all cultures and civilizations. Metalworking had its beginnings millennia in the past. At some imprecise point in the distant past humankind discovered that certain rocks now called ores could be smelted, producing metal. Further, they discovered that the metal product was malleable and ductile and thus able to be formed into various tools, adornments and put to other practical uses. Humans over the millennia learned to work raw metals into objects of art, adornment, practicality, trade, and engineering.
Metalworking generally is divided into the following categories, forming, cutting, and, joining. Each of these categories contain various processes.
Metal Forming includes casting, bending, metal stamping, coining, stretching, metal drawing, metal rolling, metal ironing etc.

Custom roll forming

6月 27th, 2008

Custom Roll Forming is a creative process. An experienced roll former can guide you through the early planning stages providing the benefit of years of experience in design and engineering. Several stages of redesign may occur in order to trim costs and simplify production and assembly.
A custom roll former can deliver finished shapes, cut to exact length for assembly in your production. This frees up valuable manufacturing space in your plant and completely eliminates scrap loss. By eliminating secondary operations, labor costs are also greatly reduced.
Roll formed shapes can be economically produced from an almost limitless variety of stock coated or uncoated eliminating the need for secondary finishing operations. Uniformity assures precise fit and simplifies production, speeds assembly and minimizes rejects. Roll forming can greatly benefit any operation.

Relating to cold sheet metal roll forming apparatus

6月 27th, 2008

A cold sheet metal forming apparatus in which the forming rolls are held at each end by bearing housings in each case held by screw-threaded rods engaging the housings and being secured directly to a main supporting frame.
Such an arrangement leaves additional room between adjacent pairs of rolls and a second set of rollers are nested between the first set also with the simplified support arrangement at each end of each roll so as to allow a second rolling line to be kept in position and available for prompt use without as has hitherto been the case the necessity to change rollers.

Sheet metal

6月 27th, 2008

Sheet metal is simply metal formed into thin and flat pieces. It is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking, and can be cut and bent into a variety of different shapes.Countless everyday objects are constructed of the material. Thicknesses can vary significantly, although extremely thin pieces of sheet metal would be considered to be foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 1/4 inch or a centimeter can be considered plate.
Sheet metal is generally produced in sheets less than 6 mm. Sheet metals are available as flat pieces or as strip in coils. It is characterized by its thickness or gauge of the metal. The gauge of sheet metal ranges from 30 gauge to about 8 gauge. The higher the gauge, the thinner the metal is. There are many different metals that can be made into sheet metal. Aluminum, brass, copper, cold rolled steel, mild steel, tin, nickel and titanium are just a few examples of metal that can be made into sheet metal. Sheet metal has applications in car bodies, airplane wings, medical tables, roofs for building and many other things.
Roll forming
A continuous bending operation for producing open profiles or welded tubes with long lengths or in large quantities.

Reversing Cold Rolling Mill

6月 27th, 2008

Cold-rolled steel products begin as hot rolled pickled and oiled coils. These coils are “coldreduced” by subjecting them to a cold reduction process on a reversing mill under tension and pressure. This process produces a steel which is in a highly strained condition with very little ductility and is said to be “full hard”.

Rolling mill

6月 27th, 2008

Rolling mill is a machine for shaping metal by passing it between a pair of work rollers.
Rolling mills are often incorporated into integrated steelworks, but also exist as separate plants and can be used for other metals, and other materials.
Rolling mills historically have been of several kinds:
Depending on the temperature of the metal being rolled, rolling mills are typically hot or cold rolling mills.
